So many variables. Where do you plan to live? CBD, outer suburbs, inner suburbs?

Whats sort of car do you want to drive?

What job do you intend to do?

Petrol is around $1.50 per litre so a big car and your spending around $100 a week on petrol if you drive around a bit.

Rent will vary from inner city around $400 a week is normal for a one bedroom apartment, outer suburbs you can  get a 3 bedder house for around $300 a week.

You are moving in MAY  - which is NOW... and you are asking this only now? If you don't know by now, you 're probably too late.

Especially rent... if you DON'T know... how will you find a place IN MELBOURNE you can afford?

You haven't given any information about your situation or requirements, but here are some guidelines.

A 2 bedroom apartment in a medium suburb (not in the actual city), will set you back at least $400 per week, probably more. City apartments are more expensive.

Petrol is around $1.55 per litre, often more (and rising)

A very modest but reliable used car will cost at least $7000. Very small new cars start at around $14000

Other running expenses like registration and insurance, say $1200 per annum. Servicing and repairs - who knows? Melbourne has brilliant public transport in most areas. You may be able to get away without a car.

Food will vary according to your lifestyle, but will be at least $200 per week unless you eat very frugally.

Utilities, say $250+ per month
