Hi is it true that if I use a Optical cable it will give better sound?

Hi I have home theater 6.1 Channel & is it true if I buy & use optical cable it will give better sound? Thank you.

Note: My Audio receiver does not have HDMI input.

Better than what?

That said, optical (or digital coax) will allow digital surround sound from, for example, a DVD player. Red/white RCA cables are analog stereo.  You may or may not hear better sound depending on your equipment/speakers/hearing ... but you certainly may.
