You can indeed go by train, but you'll need to change at Butterworth and spend most of the daytime there. See http://www.seat61.com/Malaysia.htm for details, including schedules.

It's a pleasant way to travel, cheap, and you see some of the country - something you don't get from a plane. Although I've not done KL to Bangkok, I have done Singapore to KL and it was very enjoyable.

well...err kinda confused by ur question bt...frm kuala lumpur to bangkok on train can take quite some time...around 30 hours...i suggest flight as ur transportation
