  1. I love it and would not go back to the UK for anything less than a lot of money (which no one is going to offer me anyway). It did take me 2 years to fully settle in though i.e. making good friends and speaking the language fluently, learning to work my way through the bureacratic system without having a nervous breakdown etc...

Well worth the effort though and I moved here on my own so you may find that you settle in quicker than that if you have moved over with your wife

  2. I don't know how it is in spain cause I never been their.

maybe you should ask some people that live nearby u

such as a neighbor or something.

  3. I personally love it.. It was an easy transition for me I think, mainly because I came with no expectations, and just decided to stay while I was traveling.  I have met many people from the UK that have found it very difficult to settle. Most in my opinion have an accomodation that was wrong for them.  A lot have an unrealistic view of the way things work here. ..Also the work situation can be difficult..Unless you are a professional with a job lined up, finding work can be quite disheartening.  Most people end up working in the tourist industry or construction industry..waitress/waiter, language teacher, for the most part not great paying jobs.. which creates another issue.  Plus, if you don't speak the language, you are not really involved with the community, and that is a drag.  But I love it.. I came here 7 years ago, did menial work and lots of it, I learnt the language, and then started my own little business. In the 7 years that I have been here, I have never once seriously considered moving back to Canada. The best advice I can offer, is learn the language.  Where in Spain are you.. I am in Granada Province on the coast.

  4. it is very nice, but as you probably already know expensive.  I prefer madrid to barcelona, valencia to madrid, small towns to big cities, Pais Vasco to the center and galicia is very nice.  It's hard to say unless we know where you are.  do you speak Spanish?  i find there are not many english speakers in spain.

  5. Hola

I moved to Spain back in 2006 and i love it, it took me a while to find a job but i managed and i only speak a little Spanish.

I have settled in really well i have a Spanish boyfriend who is trying to teach me Spanish.

As i have said i love it and i have not even considered moving back to the UK.

The Spanish people where i live are very friendly and have made me and my family very welcome.

But i will say it always takes a while to settle in anywhere new when you have leave friends and family behind in another country but that is why the Internet is a god send!

If u need any advise send me an email and i will be happy to help you with any problems you have.

I hope this helps and that you and your wife will be very happy in your new home.

  6. Spain is fantastic. If you are English or American, the amazing food is reason enough to live there as it is incomparably better than English cuisine. The climate and culture are unbeatable. There is so much regional variety there; If you want green and wet, the basque region is perfect, for dry and sunny The south is perfect. The Spanish people are in general so nice and welcoming that you will have no problems settling in to your new home. The scenary is so diverse across Spain and there is so much to explore that you will never tire of it and you will be extremely happy there.
