  1. I know exactly how you feel................ I'm working with 2year olds and sometimes have the same problem.

    When I worked in the baby room 3mths to 12mths most of the home made activities appeared the best. I hope some of these are of help to you;

Plastic bottles of varying sizes with coloured water containg small pebbles, bead, necklaces, glitter Tighten the lids as much as you can then wrap sticky tape around, lasts for ages.

Natural materials, sponges, nail brush, soft hair brush, bags of different smells, shells, smooth wooden items.........

Water play is always liked, even by the very young, try adding baby bubbles and flannels.

How about painting? Use different veg to print with, use coloured water-doesn't matter if they eat it.

Use coloured cornflour to creat patterns, wet cornflour has a fantastic medium-add a variety of utensils.

Have you tried sand mousse? mix some sand with some neat baby bath, makes it nice and foamy.

How about jelly? make it up and let the babies rub their fingers in it.

Use large pieces of material for enveloping-playing peekaboo.

Do you use ordinary everyday items such as telephones,saucepans-with wooden spoons, whisks, etc?

Shredded paper is a good alternative to water, put some in the water tray instead of water.

Try making musical instruments with the tots ie; empty yogurt pots with corks or balls inside.

Make balls with bells hidden inside them, then roll them to the tots.

How about toddling through trays of paint then getting the tots to walk on wallpaper, makes a great wall covering if you name their foot prints.

Make mobiles, the more colourful the better. Shapes and colours are good, add some metal  or wooden tubes to create sounds.

Plastic beaded curtains make good eye toys for the very young.

How about clearing the room or part of it of equipment and putting cushions, small soft play down, small seesaw, small slide etc

Small paddling pool with lots of small balls.

I've gone on a bit but I hope it has been of some use to you.

    Good luck

  2. go swimming

  3. sign up for some baby yoga to do for yr kids if you can afford them. doing craftwork w yr babies is also good. but be warned, it will be messy but it is extremely bebeficial for the child in the developmental aspects

  4. Look, issalways hard.  Do as many different things as you can.  One thing I tried (because it had been done to me and I didn't really believe it)) was to teach my children to read.  The first I started at 11 months old and as it worked I tried the next one at 7 months old and it was even easier.  They learn to read at the same rate that they learn to talk.

I was so impressed that I became a Primary school teacher and believe me it is a LOT harder at school because you have to do so much so quickly.  That was over 30 years ago

No they weren't bored when they went to school.  They were just pleased that they were good at something.

All you need is patience, but you always need that.  Email me through 360 if you want to know more.

    Good luck

Seeing the answer about paper reminded me.  When they are a bit (maybe a year) older they LOVE having things wrapped up in newspaper eg armchairs, tables and unwrapping it.  The bigger the better and more exciting!

  5. Isnt it annoying that soon all this birth to three training will need to replaced with new educational system----grrr

    Anyway some ideas:

    1) Mirror play- get lots of objects to place on the mirrors-the new reflections and light opportunities are great for sensory stimulation!

    2) Put the babies in messy play clothes or long shirts and sit them on long pieces of wallpaper or sheets of paper with paint, brishes, sponges etc....although i doubt the brushes will be used :)

    3) get pots, pans, wooden boards and spoons, etc to hit them all with....great for practicing the motor and manipulative skills!

    4) Talk them outside-the movers and walkers can find interesting things like shells and cones and can put them on the baby mat for hte babies  (of course adults can gather some already!)

hope thats a few interesting ideas for you!

  6. Paint-balling?
