Hi my name is Antwan and I am thinking of either moving to Australia or New Zealand on a work Visa just to see if I like it after College. My skill is in need in Australia ( my skill is Journalism and I will have an Journalism degree). If I am able to find a job in Australia could I at least come over for 12 months even though it is not a need. What if I decide that I want to stay after the 12 months. Would it then be easier to get a Permanent Visa just as long as I haven't caused any trouble there? I was also looking at information about Sydney. It seems like a nice place to stay along with Melbourne. Could you give me a little information about Sydney? What do you think is better city to live in for a Single male in his 20's?" What about Auckland?

  1. Slow down. You have to be offered sponsorship to get a work visa -you just can't choose it. I highly doubt you will get one for journalism. You have to see if a newspaper would even sponsor you first.

  2. Hey Antwan

Not sure how the Visa thing work's as I'm not a frequent flyer so I have not yet flown out of New Zealand. But If you do decide to come to NZ, do not go to Auckland try the Hawkes Bay or the Nelson area as many people that come from overseas seem to get seasonal work fruit picking or working in the orchard's crop picking, and accommodation is sometimes provided for.

  3. Hi Antwan

Assuming that you get your visa sorted, the cities you've asked about are all beautiful in their own way.  It depends on your taste of course.  Sydney is the big flashy type - lots of shopping, clubs, international flavours, etc, but it's the most expensive city to live in in Australia.

Melbourne has been voted the most livable city in the world in the past, it has everything for everyone really - all the flashy stuff but also a very arty, European style and an abundance of cultures from all over the world.

Auckland is much smaller than those two but it is the biggest city in New Zealand.  Remember, New Zealand is a very different country to Australia - we look the same on the surface but NZ has more of a Pacific Island flavour but a higher cost of living.  There is a lot of competition between the two countries.

Hope this gives you some idea, but keep researching.  There's a lot to find out.
