  1. There are many cons:

1 Teachers unable to understand the needs of the pupils.

2 Teachers not trained as well as specialists in the pupil's needs areas.

3 Schools think that because they are 'coping' they are providing a good eduction (a good example is the person who said there are no cons - they don't even begin to understand the problems, but think they can cope!)

4 Other pupils disrupted by pupil with SEN in many circumstances (pupil with SEN  can be very, very disruptive)

5 Pupils with innappropiate behaviours (sometime sexual) disrupt othet pupils and the pupils' parents won't like it either. Eg: pupil who take off clothes and plays with himself in class (yes, it happens regulalry) would end being targetted by bullies, excluded by peers and possibly arrested in a mainstream

    school.

6 Pupil feel excluded: in well deisgned, tailored environment, pupils with SEN can have their social and personal needs catered for, in a mainstream-school environment, these pupil don't mix and so can be socially excluded - the very result the inclusion was supposed to avoid.

7 Expertise and equipment in mainstream schools is spread thinly, in an SEN school there are lots of people who are concentrated in a smaller area.

8 SEN schools are built (physically) for the pupils, I'm not just talking about ramps and toilets but wider corridors, hoisting equipment, standing frames in every room, special chairs, beds etc. Mainstream school don't have the room.

9 Movement of pupils: one pupils may come with equipment that takes up 50 sq feet of floor. That pupil may stay in the same class in an SEN school, but in a mainstream secondary school, would have to move around from class to class with equipment.

I could go on, but that's enough for now. People who say there are no cons don't understand the needs of pupils with SEN.

  2. pros: are with it

    cons: are not with

  3. there are many pros and cons-pros are that the kids arent labelled and put into special classes and therefore arent made to feel different-cons are the very fact these kids are put into mainstream classes makes them stand out even more-kids with statements are awarded help in way of teaching assistants and this makes it very obvious indeed that they are treated differently-actually that pro has turned into a con-so i should have said there are far more cons than pros

  4. Importance:

-Children have legal right -UN convention of the Rights of the Child to have educational suitabel for their needs.

-Disability Discrimination Act means chidlren with SEN are to be treated fairly and be offered opportunities.

-Equal Opportunities laws and Childrens Act follow the same ideas.

-Children will develop better if the curriculum and opportunties and suitable for them and they are not simply sat out watching.

-Encourages parents to have faith in the setting.

-Increases child's self-esteem as the activities are achievable and they are encouraged to join in.

-Creates a diverse settings where children learn about differnet lifestyles, abilities etc and supprot anti-bullying.

There really arent any cons-there are difficulties of course but its for the best of the child.

  5. Pros- child feels part of the class, not different or excluded

teacher knows child well as not withdrawn from class into small groups

get correct curriculum coverage at their level

Specialist support from teacher rather than withdrawn group with a TA not trained

Cons- hard for teacher to identify needs of pupil at times

loss of confidence-classmates can do more

               lose out on specialist help

poor teaching leads to child being ignored/needs not met, treated as one of the class
