scart input, the Freeview 2 scart inputs, the DVD has 1 scart input, and the VCR has 1 scart input, my question how do I connect all together to watch Freeview, DVD's and watch video's.

If this cannot be done because I would need a scart switcher please tell me how to connect just the TV, freeview, and the DVD, bearing in that the tv and dvd have 1 scart connection each and the freeview has 2 scart connections.

All genuine help appreciated!

  1. As a footnote to your last, you can play the VCR thru your TV via its' RF (coax) cable. Ordinarily, the aerial goes to the Freeview box, then RF (or coax) lead out to the "aerial in" of the VCR. RF (or coax) from "output" of VCR to the "aerial in" on the TV. Put a tape in, press play, then press pause. Choose a free channel on your TV remote (NOT your Freeview remote) say, channel 7, and enter the tuning mode. Scan until you find a paused VCR picture, press Play on the VCR to make sure it IS the VCR picture, then store. Your VCR will now play on the selected channel on your TV (in this case, channel 7).

    Good luck, happy viewing

  2. Go to this web address:   http://www.freeview.co.uk/installation

In the box on the left hand side set the number of scarts on the TV to 1. The diagram will change to show you how to connect up all your bits of equipment.

  3. Easiest way is to plug each device into the back of the TV as required, until you get a SCART switch-box, that is.

The problem is both the Freeview box and DVD, the SCART connections are "output" only i.e. you cant make one signal go into one unit and out of it's SCART socket, if you get what I mean.

Edit to the thumbs-downers, which I suspect includes the person who asked the question: did the question mention aerial (RF) connectors, which is generally a crappy way of connecting stuff? No.

  4. Firstly, you say your Freeview has 2 scarts. One is for connection to TV the other is to connect to VCR so you can record. But if your TV has only one input you do need a scart switching box, so you can have all connected.

  5. Scart sockets don't work the way AV cables use to and you could feed signals through the VCR to the TV.

You just need to spend some money, the cheapest will be a scart adapter, you just plug everything into that and then into the TV and switch to the thing you need when you need it. It's not like you can watch a DVD and freeview at the same time anyway.

Or spend some money on a new TV, get Freeview built in and have two scart sockets.

  6. You can get scart adaptors...1 goes into the tv and theres 3 or 4 on the other end. Think asda sell them.

  7. Connect the DVD's scart to the Freeview box's input. The Freeview's scart out to the TV's scart. Make sure the Freeview box is on standby but not on when you want to watch DVD.

The VCR is trickier if you also want to record with it from the DVD or Freeview. Ideally you need 2 scarts if you want to view while recording. But since you only have one, I would try a scart splitter (1 -> 2) from the Freeview box, the outputs going to the TV and VCR respectively.

Sorry, but you can't use the Freeview installation to help - your VCR only has one scart. But leaving it out, the diagram on the site is exactly as I recommend above.
