I'M REALLY CONFUSED: why does my piano book say 1 beat when everyone on this site tells me that these notes receive 1/2 beat? This is for piano.

Thanks in advance and please help me overcome this confusion!

  1. ok well i couldn't see your pictures but it might be where you have 2 eigth notes connected to each other which would be two notes connected by a line making it one beat. but every eigth note individually is worth 1/2 a beat.

  2. I can't see the notes, however in music just remember a whole note receives 4 beats, a half note 2 beats, a quarter 1 beat, an eighth is 1/2 a beat in 4/4 timing.  Look at the time signature, it indicates how many beats per measure you will have and then you can figure out how many beats the notes will receive per music score.

  3. i am a level seven piano player the internet is wrong.  oh and the websites don't work.  But yes eighth notes get one beat just like 16th notes
