  1. I always told my kids, "You can't get flies with vinegar. You must use honey!"  Ah, I remember their whiney little voices' "But Mom, who wants flies??" I also passed on to them the advice MY father gave me...."Never marry anybody you don't want your kids to look like."

  2. If you gain a little weight and your clothes get a little tight, your shoes will still fit.  So always buy fantastic shoes.

  3. I always told my children to trust their instincts. They do and it has saved them heartache, money and time. I trust my instincts and they're usually right on.

  4. long ago I told my daughter to buy a bouquet of fresh flowers and put them where she will see them everyday. I have always done this, even in Winter, You find them at supermarkets and Wall-Mart. They make a room cheerful and can give you comfort. A woman should have flowers around her. Don't wait until a special occasion, enjoy them everyday. Poppy

  5. I think this bit of advice has made them happier in life.  It's my own version of the old adage "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."  When they were growing up I told them, "Don't take life too seriously.  Have some fun every day, even if it's just taking the time to watch the sun go down and the first stars appear in the sky."  My children have both mentioned this advice I gave them and say they try to follow it.

  6. Never lend money to someone down on there luck. If you are compelled give it as a gift. If it is returned it will be a surprise, if not you won't be disappointed or bitter.

  7. They always gave me a hug and a kiss when they left the house.

With every hug I told my daughters they were a good girl and to my son, he was a good boy.

I did instill in them a feeling of self satisfaction and told them, they could be the best they could be and to do what they had to do, when it had to be done.

I also so told my kid's never to go to bed angry and I am now telling my grand kid's the same thing.

One important thing - I tell them to forgive themselves and not carry a lot of baggage around.

I always and still do tell them to listen to the still small voice they hear within them when making choices.

Flowers would have been good as Poppy stated.  Darn, I didn't think of that.

They all thank my husband and I for the example we have been.
