Make sure its a costume party; after all 90% of the fun of Halloween is getting to be someone else for the night.  Consider a theme for your party.  The theme could be as simple as a favorite decade such as the the swinging 20's or the patriotic 40's or those adorable poodle skirts of the 50's.  It could also be something more complicated like Dead Hollywood Stars.  Girls would be Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn and guys would be James Dean and Carey Grant, et cetera.
