Ms. Post wants to mix two kinds of cereal. Type A sells at $2.20 per pound and type B sells at $4.20 per pound. How many pounds of type A should she use if she wants a 20 pound mixture selling at $3 per pound?

What is the answer and how do I solve this?

Thanks

  1. x = pounds of type A

    20 - x  = pounds of type B

    2.2x + (20 - x) * 4.2 = 60

    2.2x + 84 - 4.2x = 60

    -2x = -24

    x = 12

    12 pounds of type A and 8 pounds of type B
