Hi there I need to infuse 1000mls for 12hours.Using a driping factor tubing of 20 how many drops per minute will I infuse?

There are many ways to go about this. Here's what works for me.

1. Determine ml/hr. This would be 1000/12 = 83m/ hour.

2. Determine gtts/hour. This would be 83 x 20 = 1,660 gtts.

3. Determin gtts/minute. This would be 1,660/60 = 27.7 gtts, round this to 28 gtts per minute.

If I remenber correctly from high school chem, there are 20 drops/mL. That means there are 20,000 drops per L. Given that there are 360 min/12hr, that would be about 55.5 drops per minute.

Why in God's name do you need to know this? Weirdo.
