My 13 year old daughter has rang up a huge bill by phoning mobile numbers from our house phone. We have a free unlimited calls to local and national numbers but not to mobiles. She has a mobile phone - but she continues to use our house phone. My son (10 years) is starting to do so also. What service can I use or I don't mind buying a phone that will stop them phoning mobile phones but not stop them phoning local numbers in case of emergency.

thanks

  1. I had the same problem with 3 teenage daughters! After stopping their pocket money until they had paid their portion of the bill, I got in touch with my phone company, explained the problem and got a stop put on all mobile numbers and competition numbers  [ such as tv and radio ones]. My next bill was £200 less! It was a pain when I wanted to ring a mobile but well worth it!

  2. if you are with BT you can get an access code which stops anyone using the phone apart from 999 calls if you dont enter the code first

desperate times call for desperate measures!

  3. go online to BT and you can do it now, just restricts any 07 number. get an old bill ready with your account number

  4. phone up the company and get them to put a lock on it, when you want to ring a mobile you have to put a code in.

  5. Your daughter should be punished for using the home phone like this.  She should be made aware that the costs are considerable and place the family as a whole in a bad financial situation.

If I did that, I would have been belted.  She needs to understand that using the phone without permission is wrong.  Thirteen is old enough to understand this.  She should be made to 'work' off the debt with chores.  If your son is starting this as well, give him the same treatment.  Don't let them exploit you.

Take away her phone as punishment.  She's 13.  She doesn't really need a phone.  Tell her she'll get it back when she works off the debt.

Put a block on your phone.  Speak to your phone provider about this.  They will be able to give you more specific information.  If they can't help, have your home phone line disconnected, or take the phone away and lock it up when you aren't using it.  A phone line isn't much use when you don't have a phone connected to it.

  6. Contact your phone company and ask them to put a block on calling mobile phones.

  7. 1. Unplug the phone and hide it.

    2. Have the phone company block the calling of numbers with a mobile prefix.

    3. Have the phone disconnected and everybody use a mobile.

  8. try phoning BT (or whoever you're with) to see if you can have mobile phone numbers restricted.

  9. If you phone up your telephone provider they can set a code up that blocks mobile numbers. If you wanted to phone a mobile you would have to type the code in first.
