I have been diagnosed with dyslexia since I was 11. I have shown my lecture the report of my test back then. He laughed and said its just an excuse. The thing is I have asked for a special lap top that will help me to study. Most people the same at college has one. But I have been told by my lecture over his dead body would I get one and if am findings things hard I should leave!

  1. Its not your lecturer you need to speak to about your dyslexia, your college should have a designated person for Special Educational Needs in the college - if you haven't made contact with them already, get together as much of your documentation as possible & go speak to them about any help you might need, for example, the report with the diagnosis of dyslexia, check with your parents to see if there's an Educational Psychologists report or any IEPs from your old school - if you were Statemented, get a copy of your last Amended Statement.

Also ring your Local Authority & ask to speak to the Student Finance section, ask them about funding or grants for lap tops.

  2. that is disability discrimination-if teh college can't handle it internally-file a complaint with the department of jsutice-

but be warned the DOJ in my state can't be bothered by disability discrimination

also look for your state Protection and Advocacy

again in my state they don't do anything-but i heard they are good in other states

  3. Rude man! Do you have a tutor or college counsellor you trust? Go and see them tell them everything and get loads of support. I'm sure you are very capable of standing on your own two feet so assert yourself and get all the help you deserve.
