  1. Hi,

I'd ask if this club a member of the IKMF (International Krav Maga Federation).  There are quite a number of variations out there.  Others I know of are Commando Krav Maga and Tactical Krav Maga.  I believe these two are legitimate organisations so they shouldn't be a problem either.  But if it's some small operation you may want to find out where they actually received their instructors qualifications from.  I know that might seem a bit hard to ask, but if they are legitimate they will not take offence and will have no problems answering.

How many lessons are they asking you to commit payment for?  The one I attend your first night is free to try it out and you can pay for single lessons up until you are sure this is the style for you (there are also monthly / 3 monthly payment options if you know you want to keep it up).  If it's a large initial outlay, I'd look elsewhere.

See if you can even just watch a class.  Have a look at the standard of the students and their general demeanor.  Are there decent numbers? Are they having fun?  Does it seem like they can approach the instructor easily.  Again, if they won't let you watch a class, walk away and find somewhere else.

I enjoy Krav thoroughly and hope you find yourself enjoying it too.  Good luck

  2. Do not sign any contracts, make sure you pay only for a month, See how you like it and go from there.

  3. Yeah don't sign a contract first of all becomes they're a pain in the *** to get out of.  I made that stupid mistake once taking TaeKwon-Do and I quit cause of reasons beyond my control.  I took me a year to pay it all off.  Other than that Krav Maga is a great Martial Art to take as far as I heard.  If you ever get a chance look up an episode of fight quest on You Tube.  There's no rules to this Martial Art so pretty much hits that aren't allowed in other Martial Arts like shots to the groin are allowed in Krav Maga

  4. You should be able to take at least one or two classes for free (trial) before paying. Make sure this is a certified training center (check with IKMF) before you make any payments.

Also, be ready to be pounded on and worked on. If you're not ready to take a 'beating' so to speak, go with a short term contract. This is not a sport or a martial art. It is tactical self-defense and you'll be pushed to your limit. It's a lot of fun but it's also hard work. I dreaded the thought of class during my first month of training. Once I got over it, I now attend 6 - 7 classes a week.

I can't see myself without krav and let me know how you like it!
