Hi I have 38''Philips HDTV/LCD with native 768P & I also have Playstation 3. Yes I am using Philips HDMI -To-HDMI cables too. So my question is how do I get 5.1 or 7.1 sound? And is it true that I need surround sound speakers & audio player? Thank you!

  1. You will need a home theater system. You can pick one up at any electronics store. They don't cost that much anymore, and are easy to setup!  I also think Target is still having a sale on  a Coby brand one this week. Its a 5.1 home theater system with a dvd player built in for $50.00. With a setup like yours you will definitely want surround sound!

  2. yes surround sound speakers and a reciever to play sound through speakers most dvd players now act as reciever

  3. All depends on how big your viewing room is and if you are prepared to drill holes in your walls and mount speakers.

You see, 5.1 works with 5 sound chanels and the ".1" being the sub.  So you would have 3 speakers at the front and two at the back plus your sub.

7.1 works on having 3 speakers at the front one on either side in the middle and two at the back plus the sub.

You will need a dedicated surround sound amplifier and an optical cable.  Sony or Dennon are both good choices.

  4. You would need a receiver preferably one w/HDMI connections , the more the better, either 5 or 7 speakers and one subwoofer. You should also look at getting a blu-ray DVD player.
