  1. i use Arris Modem which i got from EarthLink for a Cable Connection.

  2. Cisco systems invented networking in the 80's; so, I would trust them. Any router is basically good, though, unless you get one through AT&T or verizon like you did.  Cisco owns Linksys ;-)

  3. I have a wired AT&T modem that came with the Express Internet that is $25 a month. The brand of it is Siemens. I found the customer service to be very good, my modem broke a year ago, and I call them and they politely said that they will replace it, and it came in just three ways with express air mail. If your modem is wired, you can just get a wireless router for it, use it wired to the desktop, and connect your laptop to it wirelessly. If you have the new wireless gateway from AT&T, then you should have no problems with it, since it's for two computers and it's wireless. Just so you know, you can't get any random modem to use for the internet, only the ones that came from AT&T. As for the router, get the one I told you about. All you have to do if you have the wired modem, is to connect the router to the modem, and that's it.

This is the modem and router I have.

  4. I have a linksy's router and it works really well. We have a desktop and three laptops using it and its rarely slow.
