Hi I'm deciding buying a 40" HDTV/LCD with 1080P but, there are 2 types of 1080P? Ok 1 is 40"Sony HDTV/LCD 1080P & it cost $1,500.99 & the 2nd is 40"LG HDTV/LCD 1080P 120Hz & it cost $1,900.00. Price is not my object & which of the 2 is good? Thank you.

  1. The differences is in how the tv process the picture.  Technically the resolutions is the same.  The 60hz unit means the picture is processed or refreshed 60 times per second.  120hz processes the picture 120 times per second.  Both are processing the same data(the resolution), it's just a matter of how fast they are doing it.  What we see is more detail and a smoother picture.  If you can find a store that offers a side by side demo using 2 separate tvs, you'll immediately see the difference.  Since money is not the object, I'd recommend the 120hz model.

  2. Actually the 120Hz is a refresh rate for LCD TV's, because LCD's suffer from motion blue ("pixellation" because) on fast moving scenes the LCD cannot keep up with the fast action.

Plasma is a light based system and doen't suffer from motion blur because light turns on and off so fast that the plasma display can keep up.

You may find that you will get a better picture with Plasma, darker black levels and overall better color.  Plasma also has a wider viewing angle than LCD.

People will say that Plasma suffers from burn in.  It doesnt, that happened with the first and second generation plasmas and they no longer have that problem.  They do cost more to run but the price difference in hourly use between LCD and plasma is not enough to even worry about.  LCD's do run cooler though and are brighter.
