To David,

Not true that the SAS are NOT elite father figure. No offence. Special forces started in Cavemen,Greeks, & Romans days. Not in the 20 century.

  1. Delta force because they have chuck norris.

  2. Col Chuck Beckwith formed Delta after serving with the SAS and learning the way in which they taught personnel trying to become members of the regiment.  Your question is purely what if, the US posters will say Delta and the British will say SAS - a no win situation

As for Vladimir - I was always under the impression that the GRU was the intelligence gathering arm of the Russian army and as such not special forces in the truest sense of the word.

  3. Neither. The toughest is Russian GRU. because I am Russian.

Seriously speaking all they do is classified. Even those who serve in those units might not have the answer.

  4. Delta Detachment not "Delta Force"

    And Navy Seals

SAS a close third with Marine Recon or Army Ranger

  5. delta march on there stomachs our S,A,S,march on there own skills,,and are the best in the world,

  6. I think S.A.S first, then Dad's Army, The Balloon Axillary Air Corps, then Delta Force.

  7. You really can't answer that, we don't know the majority of their missions. If we did know then they wouldn't be good at what they do. Considering the SAS was the father figure of most Special Operations groups I say the credit goes to them for starting the idea

  8. The SAS. Reasons:

    - They have had less deaths whilst being in more combat situations than delta force.

    - They have had no recorded friendly fire incidents. delta force have had many.

    - General Schwarzkopf (american Commander in Chief during the 1st Gulf War admitted no other force could have performed the actions that the SAS did.

And finally, the SAS train delta force (and the navy seals). delta force and the navy seals do not train the SAS.

  9. what a complete walter.

  10. You would be hard put to find much in the way of Regular specific infiltration and raiding forces prior to the creation of the SAS. Greek and Roman societies had nothing that remotely resembled them.

If you can name the Roman Special forces unit, or for that matter the  'Cavemans',  I would be most interested

  11. It is impossible to try and determine which SF's is the best. But the majority of military experts and historians all agree that : "Special Air Service are the most reliable, they get the job done" Do a little research and you will see that i'm not lying. And for the record, SAS are the basis on which the majority of all SF's are based on read a book for cying out loud. And i'll have to ignore your little 'cavemen, romans' speach, i'm sure it would be a waste of time trying to convince you otherwise.

  12. There are 3 reasons it's the SAS

    1) The Iranian Embassy Siege

    2) The Film Who Dares Wins

    3) Chris Ryan's Books

  13. All that Delta Force seems to be able to do is crash Hercules aircraft into the ground in Iran and shoot Allies instead of the enemy so i think that answers that. I would say in all honesty the best soldiers are the ones with most experience. A question like this will always be argued on patriotic lines. You wont get a Yank say the SAS are the best unless of course he is from the military i.e Delta and has been trained by the SAS in which case he will know.
