Hi I want to upgrade my 38'' Philips HDTV/LCD. I also do have my Playstation 3 for gaming & watch my Blu-ray movies too. Ok some audio receiver & surround sound speakers they include with a DVD player but, I do not want a DVD player because, I now buy Blu-ray movies. Anyhow, my question is which type of "audio receiver & surround sound speakers" will work on my 38'' HDTV & my Playstation 3? My budget for a 5.1 channel would be $500 or less. Thank you!

Note: My Playstion 3 it has optical port & HDMI port & I am not sure if that will help. My HDTV it has 2 HDMI port.

  1. Onkyo TX-SR705 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver. Look it up on amazon.com. It has HD audio for your blu-ray player and HDMI.

  2. My best bet would be the latest audio video receiver from ONKYO.

The latest ONKYO AV receivers has been garnering almost all the best product award in the budget and mid- price level. Also it is future proof incorporating the latest technology in the audio- video system. It will served you for many years before it becomes obsolete.

  3. onkyo is the way to go man!  We have the ht-sr800 and we are very pleased with it.  It has very upgradeable capacity and a very crisp sound, the more we turn it up, the crisper the sound!  it is 7.1 surround and hdmi( pass through) (which means you will also need an optical cable) for an awesome picture.  We have the ps3, our hd satelite, and an HD DVD hooked up to it along with our Sony Bravia LCD.  We were blown away when we hooked our Onkyo.  Check out the sr800 from Onkyo, you get alot of bang for your buck with this system.  Rock on!

  4. For a budget of $500 for speakers and a receiver, you should go with refurbished equipment.

You can get an Onkyo TX-SR605 for $264 - http://www.ubid.com/Onkyo_TX-SR605S_7.1_...

It's warrantied for 1 year by Onkyo and uBid are an authorized Onkyo refurbished reseller.

    Then grab a JBL SCS145.5 5.1 speaker system for $145 - http://www.ubid.com/New_JBL_SCS145.5_6_P...

That's $409 and with shipping should bring you in under your budget. You get a decent 5.1 package handling 100w/channel with an 8" 100w sub, capable of hitting 30Hz. Then when you decide within a few years to upgrade your speakers you can do things like order a pair of bookshelves for the front and move the front two speakers to your rear surrounds giving you 7.1 sound.

    Good luck.
