hi you all pilots, experts on, or knows aircraft structures

how many ft up and how many ft down

does wingtips sway/flexes ?

how about B-747, B-52, Global Hawk and sailplanes ?

how about B-2, in 60-70 degrees bank

and/or 2-3 G maneuver,

wingtips sway/flexes in inches or fraction of an inch ?

how about F-22 in 8-9 G maneuver,

wingtips sway/flexes in inches or fraction of an inch ?

  1. I know a 747 can flex 26 feet before they fail, duno about the others though


  2. B52 wingtips flex several feet, not sure exactly how much, but it's over two, easy.

  3. 747 stress tests snapped the wings off after they were bent 36 feet up or don.

    dunno about B-52* and Global Hawk but there are two types of sailplanes. rigid wing and flex wing. rigid wing will not flex by more than a few feet. flex wings can flex incredibly, probably 26 feet up/down or more.

    *know for a fact that the fuel tanks in the B-52's wings act as dampers to not allow the wings to flex too much

    for a B-2 in a 2G-3G turn, the "wings" will flex a little, but not by very much. anywhere from an inch to a foot or two

    don't know about the f-22 but for sure that will flex otherwise they will snap off during high G maneuvering.
