Hi!I'm claiming a tax refund of my UK job.Should I update the P91 writing I'm unemployed or still employed?

I am filling in the forms of HMRC in order to get a tax refund since I have left the UK.

I have to fill the P85,P86 and the P91. I don't know if I should presume that the P91 had to be done while still working and therefore write that I am employed by the company x*x or if I should write that I am no longer employed since I have just left the UK. When should the P91 normally be completed? Thanks!!

  1. You need to complete all these forms to claim your refund. The P91 has been ised so that HMRC can make sure that they have a complete UK employment history for the time shown. If you have left the UK permanently, or at least until 5/4/10, then you will be regarded as non resident and do not need to show your overseas employer on the P91.

  2. The form P91 will have a start date shown on it, from when the form is required to be completed. You should show everything for the period shown on the form, including periods of unemployment (it makes provision for you to show if you were claiming jobseekers allowance here).

HMRC will not require you to show any details from the date you left the UK. The form should show your employment as in the past if you are now abroad, and you should show dates of commencing and leaving. Forms P91, P86 and P85 should be completed and returned as soon as possible after you receive the form, as you will not get your refund until HMRC receive them.
