Veteran Everton defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tony-Hibbert-c35447 believes that Manchester United’s superstar Wayne Rooney could finish his career at Goodison Park, as he still holds passion for his former club.
The English International decamped from the Merseyside club to sign for the Red Devils in August 2004, for estimated 25.6 million pounds transfer fee – becoming the most expensive player ever under the age of 20. He was then 18.
All in all, he represented Everton in 77 games in all competitions, and scored 17 goals during this period.
Nevertheless, Hibbert, who will have a game played in his testimonial on Wednesday against AEK Athens, insisted that the United ace might contemplate making a switch to Everton after bidding his time at Old Trafford, and felt that it could prove to be a
‘massive’ deal for the Toffees.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I think it is. If Wayne says it, then I think the club would be stupid not to welcome him back. I think there would be a few moans but for us to get a player like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 would be massive.”
Rooney had initially planned to participate in Hibbert’s testimonial, in order to pay his tributes to the long time servant of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sweden-c3015.
The 31-year old underscored that the striker’s initial decision to feature in the game against the Greek side grows to show his affinity for Everton, and revealed that he was disappointed on not being a part of it.
He further added, “It would have been good for Wayne (to play) and it was great that he asked me. It has just worked out that Manchester United have a game. He was quite upset when he realised (he couldn't play). I still speak to him and it's just great
to see what he is doing.”
The Toffees faithful then went on to admit that Rooney could have received a bad reception at Goodison Park, but nevertheless claimed that he was an Evertonian through and through.
