Hibernian boss delighted with win over Rangers
Hibernian manager Colin Calderwood says that he is delighted with his side’s 3-0 win over Scottish Premier League leaders Rangers.
The sides met at Ibrox on Wednesday, 10 November, and the form book had suggested a victory for the home side. Rangers hadn’t lost in the league all season, while Hibs were floundering towards the bottom of the table.
However, Liam Miller netted in the sixth minute for the visitors and set them on their way to an important victory.
John Rankin doubled the lead after 19 minutes and, with Hibs keeper Mark Brown able to fend off Rangers’ attackers at the other end of the pitch, Francis Dickoh was able to complete the victory when he thumped the ball into Allan McGregor’s net 14 minutes
from time.
The result — only Hibs third league win of the season — lifted the Edinburgh club into eighth place and, while they are five points behind seventh-placed Kilmarnock, the victory has given Calderwood reasons for optimism.
He told the BBC that: “That's the first time since I've been here that we've scored first and it makes a terrific difference. It gave us something to hang on to. I'm thrilled, absolutely thrilled.”
Pleased with win after derby defeat
Calderwood added that he was particularly pleased with such an emphatic win over defending champions Rangers as it helped make up for the defeat in the derby with Heart of Midlothian on Sunday.
He said that: "I'm pleased with the response from the disappointment at the weekend and the spirit that the team showed. The first goal is always crucial in a game and if it had been against us, that would've been a real hammer blow.
"I thought the first half performance was nice and in the second half, still within a 3-0 victory, our goalkeeper's been excellent.
“To go from a 2-0 derby defeat and end up with a 3-0 victory away from home, it just shows you how difficult it is for any team to win any game of football and I'm pleased for the boys, very pleased for the boys."
