Hibernian defender hits out at manager changes
Hibernian defender Lewis Stevenson has hit out at the managerial situation at the club, describing it as “farcical”.
In just over four years, the Scottish Premier League club have had five managers. Colin Calderwood was named the side’s new boss earlier this week following John Hughes’ departure.
As a result, Stevenson — who is one of 16 players at the club whose contracts run out at the end of the season — faces a battle to impress an unfamiliar manager if he is to earn an extended deal.
He told reporters that: "It's getting almost farcical the amount of managers we've had as this will be my fifth boss. I think the players have a bit of responsibility, maybe they need to change the players and not managers."
Despite those comments, Stevenson felt a degree of sympathy towards Hughes and his assistant Brian Rice, who left the club after a dismal start to the season.
'Easy to change the manager'
He added that: "It's easy to change the manager because the club can't really get rid of the players. We have to take a lot of responsibility and look forward to the new manager. So hopefully we can do the best we can for him and try and impress him.
"Obviously, he'll have his own ideas about who he wants to be here and he'll have a lot of contacts down south about players to bring in. We've only got a short time to win him over and hopefully, get another contract.”
Stevenson has struggled to make an impact at the club, having found first-team opportunities few and far between. However, he got his first start of the SPL campaign under caretaker coach Alastair Stevenson and played during the whole of the 2-1 victory
over Kilmarnock.
