Hibernian midfielder fears fans could drive Colin Nish out of club
Hibernian midfielder Ian Murray says he is worried that supporters booing striker Colin Nish could eventually drive the striker out of Easter Road.
Nish was the subject of verbal abuse by his own fans for a poor performance as the sole striker in the goalless draw with St Johnstone on Saturday 29 November, and the announcement of his substitution in the second half was cheered by Hibs supporters.
The 29-year-old striker has scored just one goal in the league this season, in the 4-2 loss to Aberdeen on 23 October. His poor form has contributed to Hibs claiming just 15 points from 15 games this season to lie in eighth place in the SPL table.
However, Murray has claimed that Nish does not deserve such criticism and says he is worried that the former Kilmarnock hitman could move on from the Edinburgh club as a result.
Hibs captain Murray told reporters: "You are always going to have fans who react to players in different ways. It happens everywhere. We didn't score and I think they got frustrated. Is there a worry that Colin Nish might say enough is enough? I think so.
"Nishy will be the first to put his hands up and say he's had a terrible game but I thought he had a hard job against physical centre halves. He won a lot of flick-ons and they can either go for you or not go for you. He worked hard, won a lot and did a
generally good job. The fans want us to win the home games, that's the bottom line. We need to go out next week and try and create a bit more and get the win."
Nish's next chance to add to his goal tally will come when Hibs hosts St Mirren on Saturday 4 December.
