Hibernian striker desperate to regain place in team
Hibernian striker David Wotherspoon says he is determined to regain his place in the first team with the Scottish Premier League club.
Wotherspoon played an important role in the 3-0 win over SPL champions Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday 10 November, but manager Colin Calderwood left him out of the team that faced Motherwell four days later.
He was the only change to the side which beat Rangers, and looked on from the sidelines as Derek Riordan, who had only just come back into the fold after returning from suspension, netted both of Hibs' goals in a 2-1 win.
Despite being disappointed at being left out of the victory which lifted Hibs to eighth, 20-year-old Wotherspoon refused to criticise his manager's decision to drop him.
He told reporters, "The gaffer pulled me aside at training on Friday and gave me reasons why he didn't want to play me. I totally understood what he was trying to say to me and I had to take it on the chin.
"The gaffer made the right decision in putting Derek Riordan back in because he showed his class and got the two goals and nearly scored a third with a tremendous volley. Obviously (when Riordan scored twice) I was thinking, 'here we go, I'm not going to get
back in' but I will keep working hard and hopefully I will get back in."
Wotherspoon, who is likely to play for the Scotland Under-21 side in a friendly against Northern Ireland at Partick Thistle's Firhill ground on Wednesday 17 November, moved to Hibs from the Celtic youth academy in 2007.
He has since made 40 league appearances for the Easter Road club and has netted one goal for the side, in his senior debut against St Mirren at the beginning of the 2009-10 season.
