Hidalgo/Quiroz defeat Maresca/Senattore in quarterfinal – Uruguay Open 2011 CH
The Ecuadorian pair of Diego Hidalgo and Roberto Quiroz powered into the semi finals in Montevideo after beating the home team of Santiago Maresca and Rodrigo Senattore. Hidalgo/Quiroz were on the front foot the moment the match
began. Their on-court chemistry in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Uruguay Open was far more energetic than the bond shown by Maresca/Senattore.
Hidalgo/Quiroz were ahead with their superior quality serves. They delivered a single ace in the first set and conceded a double fault once. Their opponents were looking shaky with their service games, as they could not score any
serves. They did concede double faults twice in the set, which further reduced their chances to winning the set.
Maresca/Senattore were the favourites in the match and had a home crowd advantage behind them. But their efforts on the court were not that exciting. They had a 64% first serve winning ratio and won 44% points from their first
and second serves.
Hidalgo/Quiroz remained in the lead throughout the set because of their impeccable service games. They won 65% points from their first serve and 67% points from their second.
Where the Uruguayan pair looked out of shape, the Ecuadorian team, on the other hand, was playing all shots nicely. They could save a single breakpoint out of the two they faced.
Their opponents were unsuccessful in saving any of the three breakpoints that they faced. Maresca/Senattore could not deliver the match that the spectators were expecting from them as they could only win three games in the opening
set. Hidalgo/Quiroz won the first set 6-3.
Both teams could not deliver any ace in the second set, which began with both sides trying to impose their dominance in the set. The Uruguayan pair played their service games well as they did not concede any double faults. Maresca/Senattore
looked a bit frustrated with their first set loss and played aggressively, and conceded double faults twice in the set.
As far as the first serve winning ratios were concerned, both teams were balanced as the Uruguayan team had an 80% rate while the Ecuadorian pair secured a 79% winning rate.
Hidalgo/Quiroz controlled the second set with their shot selection and especially with their service games. They won 60% points with their first and second serves. The Ecuadorian pair could win 47% points from their first serve
and their second serve points made them trail behind, as they were unsuccessful in winning any point from their second serves.
The Uruguayan team saved one breakpoint out of the two they faced while their opponents could not win any of the three breakpoints that they faced.
By winning only a single game in the second set, Maresca/Senattore had to face the inevitable, as Hidalgo/Quiroz won the second set 6-2 and sailed into the semi finals of the men’s doubles competition of the 2011 Uruguay Open.
