It's been a few days that there is this file on my desktop. it's called "desktop.ini". when i go to folder options and choose "dont show hidden files and folders" it goes away.

I wanted to know if it's better to have the PC show the hidden files or not show them?

  1. its better if you don show then because if you do a hacker might do something to your computer etc so its better if you dont

  2. Mostly, hidden files and folders are system files unless you make the file yourself hidden. The purpose of this is to secure the file to avoid deletion because mostly, hidden files are system files. It is better you hide the files for your security.

  3. Personally, I prefer to show them. Here's how to show them and get rid of the "desktop.ini" file:

    - Click "Start" - "My Computer".

    - Click "Tools" - "Folder Options".

    - Click the "View" tab.

    - Make sure the following items are selected:

    --- Do not cache thumbnails

--- Show hidden files and folders

    - Make sure the following items are NOT selected:

--- Hide extensions for known file types

--- Remember each folder's view settings

    - Click "OK"

After this, delete the "desktop.ini" file from your desktop for the final time.

  4. not to show

  5. its ur wish.

  6. Desktop.ini files have a function - they give certain folders a specific look, and feel, and allow for folders to have special icons.

There's no real need for a desktop.ini to be placed inside your Desktop, though...
