Hiddink speaks on Arshavin’s return at Zenit and defends Denisov’s move to Anzhi – Football News
Anzhi Makhachkala head coach, Guus Hiddink, has discussed Andrei Arshavin’s possible return at Zenit St. Petersburg and denied that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Igor-Denisov-c16694 joined Anzhi Makhachkala for money motive only.
Arshavin, who left the St. Petersburg club to join English Premier League club Arsenal FC four years ago, is likely to make an emotional return to Petrovsky stadium after the Gunners did not extend his current contract which will
expire at the start of next month.
Consequently, the 32-year-old will join the Russian Premier League club as a free agent probably next week after going through complete medical examination. If speculations are to be believed, Arshavin has already agreed personal
terms and condition with his former club.
“Zenit are already competitive. They have been a top club in the Russian championship for many years. They want to get back on top after beating CSKA Moscow. I cannot judge how much change will occur in the team after Arshavin’s
arrival but I can say that Spalletti can make proper use of the striker. A few weeks ago I called Arshavin because I love him as a person. I think he's a good guy and a real person. I hope he will rediscover his old form after having some bad seasons previously,”
the former Real Madrid boss was quoted as saying.
Hiddink went on to talk on Denisov’s move away from Zenit. The Dutch tactician said that the 29-year-old Russian midfielder joined the Dagestani club in order to seek a fresh challenge after spending too many years at the St. Petersburg
club.
The Makhachkala-based club paid in the access of 15 million Euros to capture the talented midfielder and if speculations are to be believed, the player will be earning a lot more in terms of wages at Dynamo stadium (Makhachkala).
However, Hiddink shrugged off the reports suggesting that Denisov joined Anzhi to make good money after saying that the player was heartbroken following Zenit’s failure to win silverware last season.
Zenit finished behind CSKA Moscow at the second spot on the league table and missed out a chance to reach the Russian Cup final after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat against Anzhi on penalty shoot-outs.
