Question:

Hideki Matsui Help anyone?

I'm in a fantasy points keeper league. We can keep 8 guys and Matsui would be my top OF. However, I have 4 guys currently on the DL and I'm fighting for first place, so I really need every roster space.

Should I dump Matsui for some more help at other positions? Would he be a keeper for next year? He was my best OF but that's not saying a lot, I'm loaded at pitching, C, 3B.

Any thoughts? Don't wanna dump him if I don't need to, but an extra roster spot would get me points now. Thanks.

  1. Since you're in a keeper league, it is a tad more complicated than being in a non-keeper league.  Matsui, based on previous years, obviously is a nice fit in a Yankees lineup; however, he has had injuries the last two years, still had a good '07, regardless.  With that being said, I THINK he's not the player he once was!  He didn't necessarily have a good '08 when he was healthy, in fact, the last ten games he played, here are his stats: 1 HR, 5 RBI, 286. avg. (yikes, that was when he was cleaning up for the injured A-rod).  I think you can still make it this year and next if you drop becuase there are always young talent and hot players to pick up off the waiver wire!  Since you said he was your best outfielder, I would pick up another outfielder for him!  Don't know how competitive your league is but if Brad Hawpe is available I would pick him up immediately b/c he and the Rockies are starting to hot!  Casey Blake might be available!  Cody Ross is probably available, just came off like a 17 game hitting streak!  Gary Sheffield might be available; power is coming back!  If Hawpe is availble, I would definitely drop Matsui!

  2. Dump him probly out for the season
