Hideki Matsui looking to revive his career with New York Yankees - MLB News
Hideki Matsui is one of the best designated hitters in the Major League Baseball right now. In his tenure with New York Yankees, the left handed striker displayed some high quality hitting skills to let his side secure unforgettable wins.
Hitting a towering three run home-run on his 35th birthday, he looked in prime form in 2009 season. However, his most notable accomplishment was recorded in 2009 post season, which left the fans wanting more of him.
Matsui bated with an astonishing .615 average to let the Yankees defeat defending Champions Philadelphia Phillies 4-2. His three home-runs with 8 RBI’s in the post season were the best stats among all hitters in the post season. For his incredible and consistent performances, he won the post season Most Valuable Player Award.
In addition to his hitting abilities, the guy can do a reasonable job as an outfielder. Matsui is also one of the only three players who have batted with .500 average and hit three home-runs in the same World Series. However, despite putting up a great show in the playoffs, the right handed striker’s contract was not renewed by the Yankees and he signed a deal with the Angels instead.
Interestingly, the Yankees’ general manager, Brian Cashman decided to bring former Yankee Nick Johnson into the team. However, the moved turned out to be disaster for the Yankees as Johnson managed to appear in only 24 games before suffering from a severe wrist injury, which forced him out of Major League Baseball for the rest of the season.
Yankees struggled to achieve their desired results in 2010 season and the Texas Rangers' pitchers made them pay heavily for their unforced errors. They missed the Japanese designated hitter in 2011 playoffs as Cashman’s decision haunted the Yankees.
Matsui, on the other hand, had a terrible 2011 season with the Angels as he posted his worst career averages. He will be looking to make a strong comeback to the Yankees’ team. However, being 37-years-old, the biggest challenge for him will be to stay fit and healthy for the entire season.
