Hiding a window A/C unit?

I am wanting to put a window a/c unit in a window that is off my patio. I will be using a sturdy end table to hold the unit up while it rests in the window seal. The apartment manager said it would be fine as long as you couldn't see it, so I need so ideas as how to conceal it. Our patio is rounded and has 3 sides with black 3-4 ft rails/bars, and we are on the 3rd floor in front of some trees. Any suggestions would be great, I need to cover up at least 3 ft of the rails to hide the a/c unit.

  1. You could put up a fan type trellis and tie it to the rail. They come in wood or vinyl and could be trimmed to fit in front of the A/C. Or you could check your local garden center and see what type of units they have. A large fake patio plant might also work well.
