Hiding marriage at US citizenship?

If you hide ur marriage done in ur home country from US immigration at the time of your US citizenship and reason for hiding is that your spouse was insolvent in his/her home country so you dont want US immigration to know that you are spouse of an insolvent person.

What will it lead to if you are granted citizenship as SINGLE while you are in fact legally married in ur home country.

  1. Never lie in any immigration interview or on any application form or any other documentation submitted to immigration.  Any lie constitutes perjury, a felony.  Never omit any relevant info, either.  If you hide something that would have made you ineligible, that's fraud in addition to perjury.  Your visa, green card, even naturalized citizenship can be revoked.  After you complete your term in prison, you are deported and permanently barred from re-entry.

If you have already filed an application as a single when you are married, abandon the application immediately and return to your own country.  And stay there -- do not attempt to re-enter the US.  Otherwise, you are going to prison and being deported.

  2. Doesn't matter what the reason is. You are committing fraud. Immigration does detailed background checks,so more than likely they will find out. If you haven't gotten citizenship yet,you will be deported and banned from returning. You could also be facing fines and jail time.

It is never a good idea to lie.

  3. It's never a good idea to hide a marriage with anything that has to do with immigration or anything else involving the law for that matter. Before you get issued any kind of papers, they are going to investigate. Since the USA is probably the most powerful country in the world, no records is hidden from them.

It doesn't matter the reason why you hide your marriage, when they found out, they will probably fine you and/or send you back to your home country. Best thing you can do is consult with an immigration lawyer and see if you can get a divorced. No way you are going to get anything with SINGLE on it; because doing that would mean that you are free to remarry, and that's illegal and this country.

  4. Never a good idea to hide anything or lie about anything to USCIS. If USCIS finds out about your married before interview they will either deny your Citizenship. Or even if you get lucky now and get citizenship, if they find out later they have power to revoke it.
