Higginbottom extends overnight lead to third round in Keperra Bowl
Jake Higginbottom is not ready to give up his bid for the top slot in the Keperra Bowl and extended his overnight lead to the third round even in extreme windy conditions at the Keperra Country Golf Club in Brisbane.
Higginbottom continued with his excellent putting in the third round with a stellar three-under, 69, and is now at an aggregate of 13-under, 208, leading the tournament with three shots.
Victorian State representative, Rory Bourke, (Southern) has superseded, Daniel McGraw, for the second spot when he posted a round of four-under, 68 for the day. He moved a staggering 11 places to remove McGraw from the second spot.
Michael Smyth (The Australian) and McGraw are tied for the third spot with their aggregate scores of nine-under, 207.
Higginbottom is currently sailing on perhaps his career best form after pulling in a successful season this year. He won the Queensland Amateur Championship at Arundel Hills Golf Club last week when he defeated Tim Hart with a convincing lead. Higginbottom is also the winner of South Wales Amateur title in 2010, where he dumped Tommy Fleetwood of England to record a decisive victory with 3 & 2.
McGraw had a disappointing day at the Keperra Country and Golf Club as he had to settle with an even-Par, 72. He has performed amazingly well in his opening rounds to move in contention with Higginbottom but was not quite able to manage his shots in windy Brisbane.
He carded a first round score of four-under, 68 and went over to strengthen it further with a second round score of five-under, 67.
Smyth, on the other hand, is perhaps the most consistent performer in the tournament so far with his three-under, 69 in all the three rounds.
Australia’s star amateur golfer, Matt Stieger, has made a comeback out of obscurity in the opening two rounds and posted the best score for the day with a five-under, 67. He jolted himself from 17th position to launch in contention for the fifth and will pose a serious threat to Higginbottom in the final round.
The final round is scheduled to tee-off at 07:45 am in the morning and the leading pair would tee-off at 09:24 am.
