Question:

High Blood Pressure Runs In My Family, How Can I Avoid This?

Almost everyone on my mother's side has high blood pressure. Ages (diagnosed) ranging from 18 (special case. Severely overweight) and up. Aunt, uncles, mom, grandma, cousin. My aunt is on dialysis after years of stupidly not taking her medication for reasons she can't even justify. And my grandmother was on it for about 5 years until she died.

Just recently, this week in fact, my mom at 52 was diagnosed with high cholesterol.

What can I do to avoid this? I'm 16 and an African American if that matters. I tried and succeed a couple of years to get my mom to stop cooking with shortening and go to vegetable oil. And I was almost successful in getting her to try Olive Oil before the prices of gas and everything else soared. Money's tight, so pricey organic food is not likely to happen.

I don't/can't cook. After an accident when I destroyed a small pot, I am forbidden to cook anything other than things like instant noodles. (I know, right).

I eat as healthy as most kids my age do. I eat tons of fruit when we have them on hand. -Not lately since our frig was broken and everything was either thrown away or frozen. I eat lots of salad with fresh spiniach and not much Italian dressing.

I must admit, I do love french fries, but I'm limiting myself to have a somewhat healthy diet. I guess I could exercise more...but lately, the weather's been either too hot or raining to no end, so it limits my ability to go out and walk or ride a bike.--I do exercise at school, you should see the stairs I walk up and down and up and down on a daily base. By the end of the day, I've done 20+ flights.

Anyway, I'm just rambling now, but are there any vitamins or anything I could take to spare me the dialysis machine at 40 something?

  1. As always. The best medicine is diet and exercise. Ive always read and hear that African Americans have a higher risk. Just take care of yourself, don't over do it on junk food and always exercise, even if your not over-weight. Exercise is very important, now when your 40 and always. Good Luck.

P.S. By the way. Don't worry yourself about it anymore, or you will stress yourself out and then you will end up with it. Stress is also a contributing factor.

  2. I am an 36 year old African-American woman. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure at age 33. Both of my parents have high blood pressure. I don't have high blood pressure anymore. I have been drinking Tahitian NONI juice for 2 months now and my pressure has fallen under normal now. I don't take my meds anymore. You and your mom can also drink Tahitian NONI Juice. It also balances your blood sugar, lowers cholesterol to normal levels, strengthen the immune system, gives tremendous amounts of energy so you can exercise in the house under air condition or fans. 3. There isn't much to be done except to monitor the situation and to take appropriate medications if necessary.  These can be quite effective.
