about a week and a half ago i went to the DR and got some blood tests. my HCG level was 10497^

the DR said that means i am 8-12 weeks pregnant.

i went to a free ultrasound clinic, and the ultrasound tech. was trained for the first trimester of ultrasounds.

she said i am only 4-5 weeks pregnant.

what should i think?

it makes more sence for me to be 8-12 weeks pregnant. my last period was june 28-30ish,

here is a picture of my ultrasound. the black blob is the sack, the tiny round thing it the yolk sack and the small white dot next to the yolk is the heartbeat

also, the HCG level was from about 3 days before the ultrasound. so the HCG level would have been higher on the day i had the ultrasound

  1. I would ask to have another ultrasound done just to double check.  Maybe your HcG levels are higher becuase you're carrying mulitples?  If you are sure you should be 8-9 weeks though it could be a miscarriage. Also I don't want to scare you, but have you heard of a molar pregnancy?  Your HcG levels become extremely elevated during this too.  I would tell your dr. what the tech said and ask just to be sure.  Good Luck!

  2. I would have another test done. Talk to your doctor about what the tech said. It's always good to double checks things like this. Future tests and such will depend on the correct info. Good luck!

  3. you are fine...everyone is different and we all produce different levels of hcg...they aren't going down so you should be fine. the ultrasound clinic could be wrong...especially if they were free..it was probably a learning center and they were probably not all that experiences...

  4. I would call your ob and tell them you had the u/s done and what it showed.  I would agree thats and early, meaning less than 6 week u/s.  Did you see a heartbeat?  If not that usually indicates a pregnancy less than 6 weeks.  I don't want to get you worried, but there is a concern of blightened ovum, meaning a false pregnancy with a high hcg level and small u/s.  So please, call your ob, ask them to get you into their office for an u/s and repeat hcg level so you can know for sure whats going on.  I hope every things ok. Any ???'s please email me.

  5. doctors generally use the ultrasound to help calculate an accurate due date.

  6. The key word to all of this is "free" ultrasound clinic. While she may have had the training necessary, she is still in school to become an ultrasound tech. You are more than likely about 7 weeks pregnant using the date of your last period. The heartbeat is a good indication that you are further than 4-5 weeks. You do not hear a heartbeat until about 6-7 weeks. I would go by what your dr. said.
