High PH level in swimming pool?

We just set up a pool and checked the PH level and it is .4 more then what they recommend. What does this mean and is it ok to swim in? If not, why and what do you do to make it go down? Thanks.

  1. So your pH is about 8.0?  This is important since you don't want to go the wrong way!

The pH can be adjusted downward with the addition of muriatic acid.  Helpful to know your pool volume otherwise you can overdose.  I would make your best volume estimate then add 1/2 of the required acid then the balance, if needed the following day.
