Question:

High School Cross-Country?

I am going to be a freshman next year, and i have been doing cross-country since 6th grade

My sister is going into 11th grade, and I really want to beat her in cross-country, just like i did when i was in 6th and she was in 8th (i hope that doesn't sound s****. or something)

i am planning on training all summer, and i was wondering what i could do to train

right now i run around a 6 minute mile, but that was when i was in shape, and i haven't been running since fall, just doing my other sport, diving

however, i am planning on running 3 miles a day and working up to three in the morning, and another three at night

then, doing yoga and other exercises after, and also i will have diving 7-8 times a week

do you know what else i can do to get in shape? or do you think that would suffice

also, do you have any other tips? exercises? anything? thanks so much, and please, do not be mean with your responses

  1. wow, thats a lot of diving

my advice would be to build up to longer milage. so start out with running 3 miles but after a few weeks run 4 or 5 and then build up more after a few weeks. after your endurance starts to build you will be able to handle more and with greater speed. when i am doing my base training i prefer to measure it in time rather than distance, like i will go and run for an hour not 10 miles, because you can easily measure time with a stop watch and as you get stronger you can run the same amount of time and you end up going farther which is good for you.

building your core strength is important to running as well. since you dive i assume you already have strong abs and such, but continuing to strengthen them will help as well as doing a little upper body strengthening, as simple as just push-ups. you don't need to start lifting weights or anything.

good luck with your goal, but remember that running is first and foremost about having fun so if you don't do what you set out to don't be disappointed, just keep working hard

  2. you should bike a tonnnnnn that helps me.. and do a cross-country camp and run all around town with friends and stuff.
