High School Football! Please Help!

I'm going to play football in high school this year on the JV team. I am a sophmore and everyone on JV are sophmores also. This is my first year playing football and I am 6' and 130 pounds. I am also very fast so I was thinking about trying out for Wide Reciever or Quarterback. For both positions would I need to know a lot about the game? Please explain how easy or hard each of those two positions are. I can only throw like 40 yards with a spiral. I spiral like 9 out of 10 times, is that enough yardage to be able to be the QB? Thanks!

  1. You need to know a lot about football to play ANY position; this is what will help you be a better player along with physical growth and training.

  2. if ur a Qb u need to know everything

  3. That's pretty tough going in to play football JV for the first time, I give you credit doing that. Through practice see what position fits you well based on your times, advantages, etc. Your coach should also recommend your position to play.

  4. i would defiantly go for WR. Just because it an easier position to learn and by learning WR i can better prepare you for QB later on. But ask your coach they will work with you and put you in the best position.

  5. u could play quarterback sure, u have the heigth and arm strength for the JV level, but at ur first year of organized football ur gonna have to work exta hard to gain a spot over these other guys that have been playing 4-5 years, if ur fast it also depends on what type of offense ur team runs, if u run a spread u would fit very well in the quarterback position, if ur team is more stacked in the middle, u might want to consider going for wide out, and for quarterback its a lot more than throwing, u have reads, fakes, technique, drop steps, rollouts, its a tough position to play

  6. I had no idea on what I was doing when I joined the football team.  I too was a sophomore and joined a football team for the first time.

They knew right away that I didn't know the game.  But they taught me with what I they thought I was qualified for.  I was slow couldn't throw a football right but I could knock people down on their a$$ perfectly! Even with guys who where way bigger than me so they taught me to be a perfect blocker!

No one got passed me and then I realized I hated football and rather go into the performing arts so I did that instead!  The ladies like a musician/cool funny actor instead of a football player!

  7. Youve got to know the sport to be qb. But for wide receiver uve got to have good hands and be quick and fast

  8. your not gonna play. For QB its not all about how far you can throw you have to be accurate and watch the pocket to see if your bout to get sacked and you have to see which wide reciver is open out of sometimes 4. Of coruse you gotta know everything bout football you'll learn but inless you hav talent i can gerantee you your benched almost the whole season and you think its easy its a hard sport...

  9. If your fast you should be a Running back or kick returner.

  10. Definitely if you are going to be a Quarterback but not so much if you are going to be a Wide Reciever. I just got out of high school where i played 3 years on the Varsity level, and the QB who was one of my very best friends knew as more if not more than my coach about the offense. If you are a Wide Reciever you don't really need to know that much, just how to run routes and read the defense a little bit. And about the part where you can only throw like 40 yards with a spiral, that should be fine at the JV level. Goo luck with football this year!

  11. Dude, Calm it! Your pretty good for a football player. I mean by your descriptions. I play Soccer and i Barely know what's going on and i'm the best defender in the entire team. Just do your best at it and you'll get in. And 40 yards with a spiral is great for a beginner. Speed, throwing and tackling is all you need. If you have those trust me you can get in the JV team.

  12. I am a freshman quarterback in highscool and I'm 5'8" 127 pounds, Quarterback takes some knowledge about reading open spots, how to pivot, hand off, pitch, and when to run on a boot out or pass, things like that. Wide Receiver is probably more easier, You just need to know all your routes, benches, posts, corners, stuff like that and just pay attention in the huddle and you should be fine.

  13. you need to know allot for qb but youll learn wr will be easier but usually jv teams dont pass allot its more of a 3/4 ratio run to pass
