High School Football Situation (PLEASE HELP EASY 10PTS)

Ok, here is my situation. I am currently playing cornerback for my JV Football team at my highschool. I am a sophomore. For the past 8 weeks, we had a summer camp that involves lifting weights and spending 1/2 hour certain days to working out our positions and stuff on the field. So we are now at the point where we did the 8 weeks and we are getting into pads tomorrow (helmets up till wednesday). So the other night at a team dinner, I found out our JV QB transferred to another school (he was a sophomore) and he was pretty good. With him gone, all we basically have are freshman who are not really good and one sophomore who I believe is just joining us.

So after hearing this news, my dad is almost forcing me to tryout for QB saying stuff like it was meant to happen this way. I like the position QB, I played it in flag a couple of years and I know its different in pads but I would have a pretty strong interest in playing it. Though i dont know the plays or anything and i think i should just stick out at corner the rest of the season where I would have a decent chance starting. So can someone please give me any advice on what to do? Thanks

  1. Being that you already have experience at the QB position I would try out for it. I played QB for my high school team and QB in flag football. There is not really that much of a difference. You never know...if something happens to your varsity QB you will be the next in line to shine.

  2. well i don't know about your team, but my team has  offensive and defensive sessions try QB when on offense and CB when on defence then make your decision from there

  3. I don't think you're father is that original compared to the typical father of a football player. Do what you like - your dad shouldn't force you into something you don't want to do.

  4. If you have a good arm and can throw the ball without getting picked like everytime. If you dont wanna be the QB dont do it because the QB has to call all the plays so youve gotta know what your doing. Do whats best for you not what your dad thinks. Last thing if you think you would help your team better by being the Qb then tryout but if not let someone else do it and stay at Cb

  5. pray for a new and bether qb

  6. Ask your coach to work you out at QB briefly and have him give an honest opinion. Tell him your situation (dont waste yours or his time with the Dad story, he has heard it way too many times already). In 5 minutes he can tell you whether or not you would have a legit shot at being the QB. He is the ultimate decision maker and if he values your ability to play corner over being the QB he will be very honest and tell you so. Respect whatever he suggests, he is the only guy that will decide your immediate playing future. Good luck, your coach will tell you what was meant to be, it is up to you (not your Dad) to respect him.

  7. Let me i aint that bad at QB i throw a very accurate deep ball oh but i am a freshman and already play TE sounds like ur fathers pushy.

  8. Ok I played High school ball. From my experiance do what your heart wants. In high school you can be offence and defence player. So go for Quarterback you don't make it you will have cornerback to fall to if you stick with corner and a walk on come or transfer and he better then you. what your second string right.  So in my opinion talk to coach tell him you want to try for QB but if either of you don't think its workin you want the Cornerback slot!!!

  9. Just try QB and if it doesn't work out just stick  with CB
