I'm 14 years old and I'm going to be a freshman.

What's it like?

I think I could fit in.

I'm a people person.But I was really wondering how it is socially and academically cuz i like to make good grades.

I most likely should not answer this seeing that I am a Grandma, but I would like to tell you what I didn't know when I started school.

Don't start smoking.  My high school friends pressured me into it, they are long gone and I am still addicted to it.

Avoid teen age drama.  No one cares who said what to who.  Your grades and how you feel about yourself are critical.

Don't try to be popular to please others.

Develop your humor.

Don't bully or pressure, except people for who they are, encourage them.  Friendship is important but after High school you will most likely not see most of them again.

Focus on college.

Don't give up.

The biggest (and most difficult to do) thing is to stay true to yourself. NEVER try to be someone else or emulate the popular kids. Think before you act! Pay attention to your studies because that is what dictactes, really, the rest of your life. Make solid, good, supportive friends. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE FRIENDS with someone. Choose likeminded friends. Relax. Realise the teachers are there to help you, not to hinder you. You don't have to be "teacher's pet" to ask for help or have a chat. Work hard, but play hard. Join extracurriculars - not only do colleges look at this when you apply to their school, but it's a great way to meet people and to try new things. Do a lot of service learning - another great thing to have on your collge résumé. Try drama, choir, band. This is the time when you can try anything and everything (legal things that is). You don't need drugs or alcohol to have a good time. Those who do aren't fun people anyway. These will be offered to you, but remember who you are and that you're better than that. Have a fabulous time. High School only happens once!

socially it's not much different than middle school.

academically it's a little harder, and it gets harder each year, 'cause you're taking higher level classes. but it's not too bad.

High school is the time when you have to get serious and study hard!!! You can also have fun too but make sure you study cause when you become friends with those seniors they can make you skip class and you will be held back, and that would messed up your records at school.
