I am going to be a freshman next year, and Volleyball tryouts are in August. I have been practicing, however I am very new to the game.

What should I expect at tryouts?

I am 6'0 tall but I am average when it comes to actually playing...do you think I have a good chance of making atleast the freshman team.

  1. All coaches say, "you can't teach height", which is why they always try to draft tall players and get them trained. Short players do have their advantage, but that would be a different story.

If you think you are an average player, chance is the coach also knows it, so don't worry about whether there is anything you don't know... you will be drafted anyway.

The key is that you want to be good and still you want to be better. You want to give your heart to volleyball, and you are **willing** to listen to your coach.

During the summer, you may sign up with a few summer camps to get yourself into coached games, and go to open gyms for some free-style playing... if possible. You may also use this forum to search historic Q/A, and put in more questions as they come up.

    Have fun playing volleyball.

  2. well being 6'0 will definatly help but trust me coaches do not pick you for your height...it just comes in handy......and some things to expect are

it is a very competitive sport so dont be mad if u dont make it (your new)

it requires a lot of practice and hard work to get good if u r on the team

there r always alot of girls at tryouts but they only take 10-12 on the team depending on the coaches prefrence.

go with a friend if possible to avoid akwardness and to have someone to "warm up with"

    tips............

have a good attitude no matter what

    bring alot of water

    bring snacks

bring a towel for afterwards (lol sweat)

    wear deoderant

cut ur nails so there not long enough to break em

do NOT bring your own volleyball(u look inexpiranced)

    wear kneepads

    wear athletic shoes

    wear spandex and a t-shirt

    GOOD LUCK GIRLIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. listen to your coach.

if need help, ask the coaches for help.

they make you do basic drills to get you going.

but basically, they try to get you into shape.

it depends on your school, because in my school, only 8 people tried out so they all made it. we sucked because no one on my team ever played volleyball before.

really work on your serves. only three people on my team could serve and serving really gets the game going.

    bring lots of water.

volleyball team is really fun, you'll love it and look forward to it.

  4. Your height will make a great impression. You'll not have any problem with blocking.  You'll have an easier time with hitting too.  Get together with a friend or someone who has played previously.

Expect to do agility drills such as the ladder.  Also, hitting, bumping, and setting.  Make sure you have controlled bumps and you'll be fine.  Keep practicing and show your love for the sport at try outs. Good Luck!
