I am an Ice Hockey goalie and have been playing the position for 4 years now.. I have been playing in 3 leagues each year and have been 1-2 leagues each summer. I have not played any hockey for 5 months now and one of the coaches for my high school wanted me to try out for Varsity, If I make it what in general should I expect from the team and for competition and practices, Also I am just going into 9th grade this year

  1. tough to say

  2. I don;t know where your high school is, but the high school's in my area are quite competitive when it comes to goalies.

First- you should prepare, don't worry what it is going to be like if you haven't even made it yet. If you have not been on the ice for 5 months your going to have a very hard time going straight into tryouts.

If you do make it, it greatly depends on your coach most likely your going to be doing allot of sitting on the bench but practicing in varsity practice. (This gives you the perk of being able to tell everyone your on varsity as a freshmen.) And most likely you will be starting in JV games. If the coach of you high school team is looking in the present and the future he may even put you in for one or 2 games to give you some experience at the varsity level.

Good luck I hope you make it, but your going to have to work very hard.

  3. if you make it, as a freshman on the varsity team u will prolly sit quite a bit for a while. but its great practice to be in the upper echelon practices vs. just settling for jv. Or you could be great and get a lot of time and maybe get noticed.
