I played volleyball during my freshman year and I also played with my coaches and my teammates during the beginning of my sophomore year for the club team before I hurt my knee and could not play. Now I'm attempting to play again this year (junior). My coaches said they'll welcome me back, but I'm nervous for it. I haven't played in 9 monthes! I'm going to train before the tryout but I'm nervous. Any tips?

  1. thats a good question i would say that you should keep practiceing and it will surely make your knee structure more healthy.

  2. you want to strengthen your muscles and any other parts of your body that are used a lot in volleyball (like your shoulders, knees, ankles, and abs)

cardio workouts will help a lot. run a mile (if your knees do not hurt) twice or three times a week just to get into good shape.

then work on your ball control by getting into the gym and practicing. grab a teammate and hit the ball around.

***a good tip for tryouts is to wear brightly colored shirts so you stand out to the coaches

just call the ball a lot at tryouts and give 110% effort all of the time, coaches will really like that.

    GOOD LUCK!

  3. My advice would be:

Don't be nervous, and don't push the limit.

It is different coming back from a injury compared to coming back from a long vacation.

You have the talent in you and you have the relationship lined up well, but you need to better take care of yourself so that you can make more contributions to the team.

  4. Just Try Your Hardest and show all of those people that you cant be stopped because of a injury. Strech everyday and probably have physical therapy and you will be back to the way you were before

  5. Just go any practice around as much as possible.  Get a feel for the ball again.  Find a friend on the team to help you train before tryouts.  Also do some high rep low weight lifting to strengthen and stretch your body.  Do no overdo it though, it's gonna take time.

  6. It will all come back to you. Just go out there and do what comes naturally to you. volleyball is a game of the heart, not the mind. If you do what seems to be right, it will work out. Good luck at try-outs.

  7. dang, 9 months is a while, i lost maybe 2-3 months because of shin injury and i was a bit rusty, still am right now.

while you're training before the tryouts, gradually increase the amount of stress you put on your body, like control the distance you run, how fast you run, how many times you jump (or if you jump at all, this is really hard to control, especially if you're playing in games, what i did was just played libero for a while until my leg was well enough to play front row)

yeah, if you have the heart and you really want to return to volleyball, then im all for you doing it, but approach volleyball WITH CAUTION, reinjuring yourself by overtraining right after your knee injury is not on ur list of priorites.  If the coaches have already welcomed you back, then they most likely would let you on the team, especially since you have a lot of potential to recover and improve during the season

    good luck with that

  8. as in any sport, if you havent played in 9 months, you can expect your skill to be a little off.. go ahead and practice a lil, youll get your feel back

  9. Don't be nervous.  That was exactly how I felt when I tried out for volleyball at the beginning of my season a few months ago.  If you make a mistake, shake it off.  Dive for every ball, that scores a lot of credit with coaches.  Be there on time.  make a presence and show that you have something to offer.  Have a positive attitude and also show you work well with others.

    Good luck!

  10. im sure your talent is still there - you will be just fine!!!

my daughter played and took a break for several months when she switched schools... she is Varsity now and getting better with time... if you are worried about your knee - just take it safe... have fun and remember its just a game - great to win but not at any cost... especially your knee...

just remember to stretch every day - be as limber as you can be and practice 2-3 moves for most of the positions - master 2 of the positions so you can be very strong (like dont have your heart set on being the one to spike all the time becuase you dont want to add the extra stress on your knee - but get stronger at serving and setting - you can always rotate in and out)

    good luck!!!!
