High School Volleyball Training?

Heyy. So, I've been playing volleyball for four years now, and will soon be graduating eighth grade. I'm extremely excited to begin volleyball at my upcoming high school next year, but am sort of nervous about making the team. The school has a JV team which plays in fall, and if the fresh. dont make that, then they play on the fresh. team in the spring. I would really love to play on the JV team becuase its in the fall, and i want to start h.s. off on a team. I'm pretty good, but I'm only 5'3". the problem is, i cannot set, and im afraid ill be put on the Fresh. team. I was wondering if anyone had some great training tips, becuase i want to start training before i actually start with the team. I'd really appreciate anything helpful concerning setting, overhand serving, actual training, and hitting.

Thanks so much!

  1. yes, training right now sounds like a great idea!!!! if you haven't already try working on a jumpserve. they look very "good" and will set you apart from all the other girls. i have been playing setter postition and i find it very easy..many ppl think it's hard but its really not. when you set use the muscles from your legs as you push up. it makes life on the court a whole lot easier. since you are only 5'3 i would be practcing on your ups. constantly do wall jumps and practice jumping.

  2. passing is the most important

    serving is second most important

unless your going to mira costa or something, you'll probably make it with four years experience (club)

  3. ok, one of the most important things is your serve. they will separate underhanders from overhanders, so get your overhand serve down. you do not need to know how to set very well. there is someone who will do that, called the setter :). practice your passing with the wall or a partner. make sure you stay low with your knees bent, and your arms straight out. when the ball hits your arms, keep your head down and looking at where it hit. do not look up after the ball. trust me, it works. hitting comes with lots of help, so i would just focus on your passing and your serving. at your height, you would be good in the back row, se be especially good at passing. good luck!
