High School volleyball coach accused of sexual assault released on bail
Joseph Emile (Luc) Potvin, who is charged with sexually harassing a girl in her teens, was released on bail today.
The accused is a volleyball coach by profession and belongs to the town Dartmouth. He currently works as the administrator of the Metro Lakers girl’s volleyball club and is also the head coach of the Prince Andrew High School volley ball team. Potvin charges
are related to sexual assault against the same girl and can be traced back to the year 2010, to the month of February. The sexual assault allegedly ended this month with Potvin’s arrest, which took place the week before.
The arrest was made on the basis of several credible accusations that had been brought up against the coach. Apart from sexually assaulting the girl, Potvin has also been accused of child pornography. Concerning pornography, the allegations against Potvin
label him as a producer as well as a distributor of child pornographic material.
All the allegations that have been made against Potvin are concerned with the same teenage girl.
The provincial court of Dartmouth has released the coach on a bail that amounts to $ 5,000. This is not the only penalty that Potvin has to suffer. There are several other conditions that are applicable to Potvin’s temporary freedom.
First and foremost, Potvin is prohibited from making any sort of contact with the girl in question. Not only that, the coach has also been asked to stay away from people who are underage, both girls as well as boys. This restriction limits the movement of
Potvin from visiting places where people under the age of 18 may be found.
Potvin means of communication have been severely limited as well. He is not allowed to carry a cell phone. Other than that, Potvin is under restriction to carry out any social activity with the help of the internet. This involves making use of internet chatting
software or social media and networking websites. Furthermore, the only time that Potvin can make use of a computer is at his work place.
There is a week’s time before Potvin will be making his next appearance in the court in order to plead his case.
