I'm doubtful this type of diet would be effective for weight loss but as a college girl on a budget (i pretty much live on rice and pasta) i just wanted to check :)

  1. You're headed for a diabetic life! If you're on a budget your best bet is beans, beans, beans, brown rice & whole grain bread, apples and bananas. Onions & garlic are cheap and flavorful and go a long way, too.  Oh yeah, Whole grain pastas cost more, but you don't have to eat as much - and you can get used to the strong taste quickly if smothered in a little spaghetti sauce!

  2. Nutritionally, this is the equivalent of trying to live on soda.  Carbohydrates such as rice and pasta convert very quickly into glucose and unless you're out running or burning extra energy, that glucose gets converted into fat.

It's not a great diet for anyone, not just a bad diet for weight loss.

  3. Absolutely, and it's a diet that many athletees prefer. You need some fats, but not saturated fats. Rice and pasta are a good basis. Add some fish, and a few veggies and you have a perfect diet.
