High flying Chicago Bears host struggling Detroit Lions on Monday - NFL Preview
Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions collide on Monday at the Soldier Field in what is expected to be a massive game between these two National Football Conference (NFC) North Division rivals.
The Bears currently sit atop the NFC North Division with a 4-1 record and if their previous performances against Detroit are anything to go by then the Bears will be ready for another big win against their rivals.
Chicago has dominated the Lions in recent times and this year their team looks stronger than ever.
Currently on a three-game winning run, the Bears look massive favourites for this game and if they perform like they did in the week five 41-3 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars then the Lions are in for a very rough night.
The Bears boast one of the best defences in the National Football League (NFL) this year giving away only 14.2 points on average.
Speaking about the team’s defence, Chicago head coach Lovie Smith said:
"I just know that we need to keep it going. Guys realize ... taking the ball away is a part of a good defensive game for us. We can't wait for them to turn the ball over. We have to go and get it. I think the last couple weeks or so, I think defensively we have scored about as many as the defence has given up. I think it's just a mindset. We have guys that have been around here a long time."
With the Lions coming to Soldier Field, Chicago is expected to up their game even more for a division rival that will be hard to cope for the struggling Detroit team.
The Lions just about managed to end a three-game losing run last week against the Philadelphia Eagles after winning 26-23 in overtime.
Behind for much of the game, Detroit mounted a brilliant comeback to steal victory from the jaws of defeat.
Giving away 16 penalties during the game the Lions were struggling massively, before quarterback Matthew Stafford took control in the final stages of the game ending the game with 311 yards and a touchdown.
The Lions also ended their interception drought with safety Louis Delmas picking off the Eagles Michael Vick twice during the game.
Head coach Jim Schwartz praised his team on the win and said:
"I think it was a big step for us as a team, playing team football today and it was a lot of spirit and guys picking each other up. I think that's a good sign of things to come for this team."
The Lions will need to perform much better than that if they wish to take home victory at Soldier Field against the high flying Chicago Bears.
